Confidence grows in Cornwall property sector as legal firm expands

As the Cornwall property market shows signs of new growth, one of Cornwall’s larger law firms has had to recruit new staff to its conveyancing department.

As house prices take a fresh upward trend and more first-time buyers are queuing to get on the housing ladder, conveyancing executive Kathy Carr has joined the residential property team at Charles French & Co in order for the firm to meet demand for legal conveyancing work.

The government’s Help to Buy scheme is believed to be a contributing factor to the rise in first-time-buyers while a general feeling of economic stability and the completion of several new homes schemes in Cornwall is also thought to have contributed.

Kathy joins the Charles French & Co residential property team with more than 30 years’ experience practising law in the county. Her experience of the local market means she is finely attuned to the intricacies of the home-buying market in Cornwall.

“As a firm we work closely with local estate agents, mortgage advisors and government schemes to ensure that buyers purchase under a scheme that is appropriate to their finances.

“I am very excited to be joining the Truro residential property team at Charles French & Co at a point where buyers’ confidence in the market is clearly on the increase,” she said.

The government’s Help to Buy scheme helps those with the ability to pay a mortgage but who struggle to find the large initial deposit that many providers require.

Firm director Charles French said: “We are very encouraged by the growth in the property industry and have witnessed first-hand growth in residential conveyancing business during the last year – hence our investment in this area and we’re pleased to welcome Kathy’s quality and experience to the team.

“The rise in activity in the housing sector unveils an increase in general confidence and attitude toward the property industry which is good for Cornwall and the good for the economy.”

As well as moving to new waterside offices in Truro, Charles French & Co recently opened a new, bigger office in St Austell. The firm also operates an office in Mevagissey as it continues to build its client base through word of mouth referral and recommendation.
